1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray 18 cup muffin pan w/ nonstick spray.
2. Using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the cake mix, water, applesauce, egg whites, & oil in a large bowl just until blended. Stir in the apple.
3. Fill the muffin cups evenly w/ the batter & sprinkle each on w/ 1 tsp. of the brown sugar. Bake 18 – 20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool in the pans on a rack for 5 minutes. Remove the cupcakes from the pans & let cool completely on a rack.
